A polar bear and a dog have seemingly become unlikely friends, with one man claiming to have captured a bizarre encounter between the odd couple in Canada.
The pair enjoyed a bit of a cuddle in Churchill, Manitoba, where a stunned resident in the town says he recorded the incredible footage.
Mechanic and part-time tour guide David De Meulles told CBC News he took out two tourists who were hoping to see a polar bear close-up when they came across the strange sight.
He explained that he filmed the polar bear calmly stroking the head of a Canadian Eskimo dog who was calmly sitting alongside its new friend.
“I had no idea what was going to happen, and then sure enough he started petting that dog, acted like he was a friend,” he told CBC. “I just so happened to catch the video of a lifetime.”
He said it was a “beautiful sight to see”, adding: “I’ve known the bears to have somewhat friendly behaviour with dogs, but for a bear to pet like a human would pet a dog is just mind-blowing.”
